The Natural History Museum were looking to publicise talks taking place at the Darwin Centre on the subject of extinction, so they worked with ad agency hat-trick design to come up with these award winning promotional erasers.
The rubbers were plain white and printed with bold, black lettering that read: "It is estimated that up to 20 animal species become extinct every day." This serious message was further emphasised as the rubber itself gradually began to wear away with each use, until it had disappeared complete, or "gone extinct".
Not many of these simple, inexpensive promotional rubbers were made. But thanks to being cleverly matched with the cause they were promoting, they were deemed an outstanding direct mail piece.
