In 2013 ad agency Tullo Marshall Warren were hired by sunflower spread brand Flora (Unilever) to improve sales and brand loyalty.
They implemented a creative strategy called Flora Sandwich Studio to emphasise the importance of lunch-time sandwiches, and therefore appeal to both parents and children. An app was developed to enable parents to share their child's drawings online and be entered into a competition. The contest ran for 6 weeks, with the best drawings being selected by an independent adjudicator. Winners received a sandwich cutter in the shape of the kid's drawing, that had been made using a 3D printer!
This campaign is brilliant because it encouraged creativity, utilised digital branding methods, and involved giving away bespoke promotional gifts that were highly personal to the user.
Who could fail to love a brand that gives them a gift designed by their own child? And what child wouldn't love being able to slice their sandwiches into a shape of their own design?
