New Zealand television channel TV3 needed to publicise the start of a new TV series, Prison Break. In order to reach a wide range of people throughout the country they embossed promotional soap bars with the Prison Break name and the network logo and placed them in public bathrooms up and down the country.
The soaps were also branded with a key imprint on the underside, to convey the show's theme and suggest that the user was now able to "unlock" access to the much-anticipated prison drama.
As a result of this clever guerrilla marketing tactic, tens of thousands of New Zealanders were exposed to the Prison Break branding, and the first episode ended up being the most watched programme in its time slot.
